Two men arrested for theft and criminal damage after the Paddington Bear statue was stolen in Newbury, and thankfully recovered.

The police say someone took it early Sunday morning. It was around 2 AM on March 2nd. The statue showed Paddington eating; he had a marmalade sandwich in his paw.
Police officers caught two suspects that same day. The men, both 22, are from Basingstoke. Police arrested them for theft. They also face charges for criminal damage.
The police now have the damaged statue. Inspector Alan Hawkett thinks it’s important, calling it Newbury’s ‘beloved part.’ He said they did everything to find it.
The inspector said they recovered the statue, and it will be fixed and returned to its spot. Paddington now gets a marmalade sandwich at the station!
The police ask people to share any tips. If you know anything, call 101 or report it on their website, using reference 43250102626. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
StudioCanal put the statue up in October 2024. It was part of “Paddington Visits,” a trail featuring bear statues all over the UK. The studio did this to promote the new film.
The film “Paddington in Peru” came out November 8th. Paddington and the Brown family visit Peru. They want to find his missing aunt in the jungle.
