Beloved Paddington statue stolen from Newbury’s Northbrook Street is recovered; two arrested for theft and damage.

Two guys are now in police custody after being arrested for theft and damage. They are both 22 years old and live in Basingstoke. The police found Paddington, but sadly, the statue is damaged.
The incident occurred early this morning, around 2 AM on Sunday. Someone smashed the Paddington statue in half and stole one of the broken pieces. Paddington had stood outside Camp Hopson on Northbrook Street since October.
Inspector Alan Hawkett, who works at the Newbury police station, spoke about the case. He said the police are working hard to find the offenders, and officers want to restore the statue soon.
Paddington is now at the police station, hopefully enjoying a marmalade sandwich. The police thank everyone for their support and ask for more information about the theft. People can call 101 with details, using reference number 43250102626, or report it on the TVP website.
