Papa John’s Faces Pushback Over Bid For Extended Late Night Sales

A Papa John’s franchisee skipped a council hearing. This hearing concerned late-night hours. The council team and a person objected to Papa John’s request. They wanted to serve hot food until late. The hours were 11 PM to midnight, Sunday to Thursday. Friday and Saturday hours would extend until 5 AM.

One person actually supported the extended hours request. The meeting revealed nearby places with late hours. One place closes at 12:30 AM some nights. Another closes at 1 AM with alcohol sales. McDonald’s, near Barrack Road, stays open until 5 AM.

Paul Barker said Papa John’s has homes nearby. One apartment sits directly above the pizza place. The council thinks late hours will bother people. Deliveries and customers make noise, they believe.

Barker mentioned past property complaints. These issues involved prior owners, though. So, the council did not formally submit them.

Mr. Fairbrass owns the flat above. He rents it out, but lived there before. He hears air conditioners and fridges constantly. He also hears phones ringing and orders being taken.

Customers and staff outside make noise, too. Delivery drivers added to the disturbance. The heavy door slamming is also disruptive. Extending hours would hurt his rental business, he said. The flat might become hard to rent out.

He stated the pizza place already impacted his life. He did say the staff are friendly and helpful. Councillor Harman worries about public nuisance. She regretted the business not attending. She had questions for them about the hours.

The committee plans to share their decision soon. They will publish this decision within five working days. So, we’ll know the outcome fairly quickly.
