Resident Andrew Smith cites disrepair, flooding, and lack of maintenance at Peabody’s Mayer House

Leaks occurred all over Andrew’s floor. He thinks there is a big drainage problem. Officials said they hired a new drainage company and planned to fix the problem.
Andrew felt the issue was bigger than they admitted; he was right about it being a critical issue. The drainage company visited many times this past year. Yet, sewage keeps flooding people’s apartments.
One person’s place flooded before Christmas, Smith shared. Two more nearby had floods before Christmas too. Andrew talked to the drainage people directly; they admitted a problem with Mayer House’s pipes.
They said routine pipe cleaning was skipped. This maintenance should occur every three years. It had been fourteen years since the last cleaning; Mr. Smith feels this caused the big problem.
He thinks they don’t care about the impact on residents. Andrew said he personally has had enough of these issues. It’s affecting everyone, he says feeling frustrated and concerned. Some residents even moved due to these dire problems.
Service charges residents pay aren’t used well, he feels, wondering if they actually use these collected fees.
A resident even invited the Peabody CEO over. They wanted them to see the problems firsthand. The CEO agreed changes were important, but Andrew says nothing really improves.
He said Peabody is terrible at fixing anything. “They don’t get anything done,” shared Andrew. He feels this slow response continues at all their properties.
Peabody also does not understand his visual impairment. They even refused to send him large-print letters.
A Peabody person apologized for drainage problems. They are working toward a real solution, they noted, cleaning pipes and asking people to be careful.
