Hey, listen to this interesting story. The Peebles Gutterbluids Society made a cool garden. They call it Damcroft Community Garden. It’s close to where an old mill used to stand.

The society built this garden to celebrate turning 50. That happened back in 2024. Douglas Wright leads the Gutterbluids. He officially opened the garden recently.

You can find it on the grassy bank. It’s between Damcroft and Moffats Croft. They planted trees and flower bulbs there. The planting happened when things grow best. They have two benches too.

Society members built and painted them. The benches have metal legs. They sit at each end of the garden. The garden has something really special. It has 550 tulip bulbs.

These tulips honor Roy Cornwall. He was a member of the society. His cousin donated the bulbs. He died, and she wanted to remember him. These tulips add to the other flowers already there.

The garden is a green spot for everyone. It also reminds people about the past. Back then, the area had a lot of industry. Damdale Woollen Mill was nearby. Messrs. Walter Thorburn & Bros built the mill in 1869.

The Mill Lade powered the mill. The mill closed in 1967. They tore it down early the next year. That made land for houses later. It also shifted the road’s path.

The garden is also near Tweedside Mill. Sadly, fire destroyed that mill. It happened on February 6, 1965. Imagine all that history so close by!
