Man caught with 1.3g cocaine after fleeing police on bicycle in Peterlee. Faces jail time for drug dealing.
The two men took off towards the bus station, leading the officer to chase them. The officer asked them to stop again. One guy, Liam Davies, stopped and dropped his bike. He told the officer he had drugs, and cops found a Kinder egg and three phones.
Inside the Kinder egg, police located foil wraps containing 1.34g of cocaine worth about £160 to £240. The phones showed drug dealing messages.
Davies, age 28, admitted to selling cocaine at court in October. The case went to a higher court for sentencing. He had past convictions, including drug possession, and was on a changed suspended sentence.
The prosecutor said Davies sold drugs on the street to make money, while the defense lawyer said Davies sold drugs for someone else to pay off his drug debt and to use drugs himself.
The lawyer argued it wasn’t a big money thing, and Davies just did what he was told. Davies cooperated with the police, but his report from probation wasn’t good, as he failed to work with drug help in the past.
Since having a baby, he’s changed his ways and is starting to work with probation. He wants to be a good dad, has a job now, and stopped using cocaine.
The judge told Davies he was street dealing, knowing he had drug debt. Davies got 28 months in jail because the judge couldn’t suspend his sentence due to poor response to probation and committing this crime soon after a past sentence change. The judge ordered the drugs and two phones used for deals destroyed, noting the sentence will impact Davies’s family.
