A pigeon was spotted eating food scraps in a Dagenham Asda. A shopper was appalled and raised concerns.

Ben had just left their bakery area, when he saw the pigeon in the world food aisle. He saw it near some rice, on the bottom shelf. The pigeon ate food scraps on the store’s floor, situated right below the rice shelf.
Ben said his mom had seen pigeons before, spotting them in that same Asda store. Ben found the staff response lacking, prompting him to call Asda’s main office to make a formal complaint.
He waited on hold for a long time, but gave up out of frustration. Ben decided to call a news source instead and reported what happened at Asda.
His family shops at that Asda often, because they have gone there for a long time. However, this incident might stop their visits; Ben said it made him not want to shop there and he doesn’t see himself going back soon.
He only stayed since he needed items for his grandma and purchased a chicken wrap at the store. He doesn’t even want to eat it now because the pigeon sighting ruined his appetite.
He has never seen pigeons at a supermarket before. Asda has fresh food sections; they make pizza, chicken, and bread there, and a café is also inside the store. Ben thinks a pigeon is unsanitary in the store.
Asda can’t discuss staff response, which can potentially stem from the fact that Ben did not make a formal complaint. Asda did comment about the pigeon itself, and the staff try to stop birds from entering the store with a team that works to remove birds quickly in order to keep the store clean for customers.
Asda wants Ben to contact them to talk about his concerns directly.
