Police said the 74-year-old woman died despite the efforts of emergency services. Her family is receiving police support. The investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the accident.
A 48-year-old man from Ryedale, who drove the red Scania truck with a trailer, was arrested. He was arrested for careless driving causing death, questioned, and subsequently released.
The road was closed until about 7 pm, diverting local traffic to alternative routes. The collision caused significant disruption in the area for many hours.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information they may have. They are particularly interested in dashcam footage of the woman or the truck, which was pulling a livestock trailer.
Police believe that both the woman and the truck were traveling west on Mount Pleasant Street when the collision occurred at the auction mart entrance.
