Human remains found near A19. Believed to be Rania Alayed, missing since 2013, wife of convicted killer, Ahmed Al-Khatib.

Rania Alayed, a mum of three, lived in Norton and Manchester. Her husband killed her in 2013 at her brother-in-law’s flat in Salford. Her body was never found.
Police had searched before, but found nothing. The discovery happened Wednesday, February 26. Police believe the remains are Rania’s, though they haven’t officially identified them yet.
Rania’s son, Yazan, speaking for his family, called the discovery a surprise after more than ten years. They wanted a final resting place for her and a place to lay flowers.
Greater Manchester Police released a statement confirming they found remains in Thirsk while searching for Rania’s body. The search started after new information surfaced.
Rania’s husband, Ahmed Al-Khatib, was found guilty of her murder in June 2014. He received a life sentence with a minimum of 20 years. Her body was never recovered until now.
GMP officers found the buried remains near the A19 in Thirsk on Tuesday, February 25. They had been searching near the A19 since Monday.
Rania’s family is aware of the discovery, and officers are providing support. A scene remains in place near the A19, with specialist officers working there.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Higginson called the murder “utterly horrific.” He expressed the belief that they have found Rania and hopes for closure for the family, who have endured much pain. Rania’s family always knew about the searches, and police provide them with updates.
Not knowing where she was has caused more pain. He hopes they can reunite her properly and give her a proper resting place at last.
