Bradford Police launch DAMAPO to prevent forced marriages, offering protection and regular risk assessments for victims.

Forcing someone into marriage became illegal in 2014. People convicted can get seven years in jail. The DAMAPO reviews protection orders already in place.
The meeting happens every month. They will support victims of forced marriage. Also, they make sure risk assessments get checked regularly.
Zaheer Abbas chaired the first meeting. He is a detective chief inspector. People from many groups attended, including social care, health services, and Karma Nirvana.
Courts issue Forced Marriage Protection Orders, or FMPOs. These orders protect people from forced marriage, both in the UK and overseas, including children and adults.
These orders can have a set time limit, while some orders have no end date. If someone breaks an FMPO, they get arrested according to the Family Law Act.
DCI Abbas explained the process, saying it ensures a unified approach. The aim is better support for victims and helps against forced marriage.
