PC Rosie Prior’s funeral saw hundreds gather to honor her dedication and sacrifice after she died in a car crash.

Over 800 people came to honor her. Colleagues lined the streets of York. A piper and horses led the procession.
The police chief, Tim Forber, gave a speech. He said Rosie lived by her values and helped the communities she served.
He said they owe her a big thank you. He added that she put public safety first, acting like the best police officers do. He promised her memory would live on.
Forber said she was the tenth officer to die on duty since the force started in 1974. Her husband, Chris, thanked everyone for their support and said Family Support Officers helped them a lot.
He asked for privacy for his family, saying they need time to rebuild their lives. Rosie died after a car crash last month on the A19 near Thirsk. She was hit by a lorry while helping.
Another man, Ryan Welford, also died there. A teenage boy got badly hurt too, and the lorry driver was arrested then released.
Rosie was born in Leeds. She had a coffee business before becoming a police officer, and joined the force in May 2022.
She really cared about finding missing people, especially kids, the force mentioned. The family is asking for donations to the Police Children’s Charity.
Rosie supported this charity, which helps police families.
