Council approves 16 flats on Sandbanks Road amid resident fears of traffic dangers and inadequate parking.

Birchmere Developments wants to build the flats and plans to demolish current buildings. One-bedroom apartments are planned for the site.
Sixteen neighbors objected to the plan, worrying about a blind bend right next to the building site. The neighbors think it is a ‘threat to life’.
Juliet Hull, who lives on Clarence Road, called the area a collision zone. She says people race and make loud exhaust noises there, and cars may not stop in time.
The development will use the current road access. Parking spaces and a delivery bay will be at the front, reducing vehicle disturbance.
The planning officer explained building rules. They must finish the parking and access first, matching the approved plan. People must always use these spaces correctly.
Residents worry about the parking spots too. The plan only has three guest spaces, which they think is not enough for visitors.
Mike Hickling also objected to the flats, saying many extra cars could park there. He estimates thirty-two extra cars might need spaces, which is not safe or feasible.
Birchmere Developments must start soon. Construction needs to begin within three years, or the permission expires.
