Bridport firefighters and a Weymouth rescue team aided an animal that fell through a wooden bridge, trapping its rear legs. This event happened in Powerstock on Sunday.

Initially, people thought the horse had minor injuries, including scrapes and bruises only. However, firefighters now say the horse’s health is worse, reporting it suffered “traumatic injuries.”

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service shared an update thanking everyone for their support. Sadly, they reported bad news about the horse.

They checked on the mare with its owners and found its condition was much worse than it looked. It sustained some traumatic injuries and is getting the best medical attention, though the traumatic experience is still affecting it. The fire service sends best wishes to her family.

Lifting equipment wasn’t usable because of the location and the horse’s position. Lifting strops under the horse also didn’t work.

The team hoped she could push herself upwards, allowing the horse to walk up the bridge. However, this proved too difficult for the rescue teams, leading crews to dismantle the bridge and build a ramp. This ultimately let them free the horse.
