People want Powys Council to apologize. They feel the paths in the area are in poor condition. The council’s committee discussed the state of the paths, receiving a report about the Local Access Forum’s work.

The LAF chairman thinks an apology is needed because he believes the council let the paths deteriorate badly. He says there are many problems needing fixes, with over ten thousand issues still outstanding.

In 2023/2024, people reported over fifteen hundred new issues. The council addressed two hundred fifty-seven problems, some of which were from the year before.

Comparatively, the National Park fixes more issues. They fixed four hundred ninety-seven issues that year, while having four hundred seven new problems arise.

The path quality differs significantly inside and outside the park. Paths inside the park are well-maintained and have good signs. Outside the park, the paths are in bad shape.

The park uses volunteers effectively, and the chairman wants the council to do the same. The council should better use its existing volunteers to improve path maintenance.

He suggested a five-year plan to ensure usability of half the paths soon. He thinks the council should update its plan, which was last agreed upon back in 2018.
