Petition against Powys recycling rules exceeds 1,000 signatures due to booking needs and new fees for DIY waste.

Councillor Joy Jones started the petition. She says many are annoyed. The council will add a booking system. People will pay extra for DIY waste. She thinks this is unfair.
These changes feel like a burden. The booking system and fees are inconvenient. The council wants to save money. They aim for £400,000 over two years.
Last month, the council made a deal. Bryson Recycling will run four sites. This deal lasts seven years. It starts on April 1. Potters Group will run Welshpool.
Councillor Jackie Charlton defends the plan. She knows charges are not popular. They allow DIY waste acceptance. All five sites stay open five days a week.
The charges are not for profit. They are as low as possible. Options included reduced hours or a site closure. Savings will keep the council within budget.
