A man was caught with a rucksack full of cash at Preston station and sentenced to twelve months in jail for money laundering.

Vue had no permanent address. He was found guilty of money laundering at Preston Crown Court. He received a twelve-month jail sentence after sentencing on Tuesday, February 11.
Officers at the station noticed Vu, who seemed lost and confused. They approached him, identified themselves as police officers, and began a conversation.
Vu used his phone for translation and stated he was traveling to Glasgow to visit a friend. He further stated that the bag he was carrying belonged to his friend.
During the talk, Vu became quite nervous, prompting officers to search his bag. Inside, they found cash in carrier bags and a gift bag.
Upon further inspection, they discovered more cash beneath the gift bag, bringing the total amount to £38,045. Police arrested Vue, suspecting him of possessing criminal property.
PC Andy Margerison investigated the case, emphasizing that money laundering isn’t victimless. He stated that the money originates from crimes like drug dealing and exploitation.
He affirmed their commitment to disrupting illegal activities and stopping criminals from using trains to move drugs and illegal funds.
