The Princess Royal becomes the new patron, following Queen Elizabeth, of Royal Star & Garter charity for veterans.

The charity began back in 1916 and has homes in three towns: Solihull, Surbiton, and High Wycombe. They also offer new community services. Queen Mary started the charity’s story way back on January 14, 1916.
She wanted a haven for injured WWI soldiers and asked the Red Cross for help. She wanted a permanent place for these men and became the charity’s first patron. Queen Elizabeth acted as patron from 1953 until her death in 2022.
The Princess Royal works with many groups, benefiting over 400 charities and military groups. People know she supports veterans a lot.
Major General Tim Tyler chairs Royal Star & Garter. He said they are honored to have the Princess. He says she’s known for good causes and public work, and notes her long connection with the armed forces.
He wants to welcome her to visit the charity homes soon. It will let her meet the veterans and partners. He mentioned Queen Elizabeth loved their work and is happy the Princess carries on that support.
The Princess knows the charity well already, as her mother was patron and her great-grandmother, Queen Mary.
Tyler welcomed the new patron on behalf of everyone. He looks forward to helping more veterans and families. Princess Alexandra remains the charity’s president, a role she has held since 1964, about 60 years.
Royal Star & Garter cares for vets and families coping with disability or dementia. The charity exists since 1916 and offers a phone line and other services. They also run clubs and day care for people in need.
