Night-time closures around Putney Bridge start today for resurfacing and sensor installation aimed at improving traffic flow.

Crews will resurface and repaint the roads. They’re doing it from 9 PM to 5 AM. After that, Transport for London (TfL) installs sensors. The sensors will help traffic flow better. They’ll connect lights to TfL’s control room.
Roads will close in sections. Detours will guide you. Side streets get temporary two-way access. This is only for local cars. TfL installs the sensors in early March. This finishes the junction upgrades. Those upgrades happened from September to December.
The council shared their past improvements. Crossing the junction is now easier. Walking and biking across the bridge feel safer. This makes the traffic flow smoothly too.
They upgraded the traffic lights at the junction. The new lights include a pedestrian countdown. There is a detector for walkers already crossed. Small lights at eye-level help cyclists. They allow cyclists to go before other vehicles. This gives the cyclists a head start.
They removed some pedestrian islands. Others moved and got bigger. Now people cross in fewer steps. A new bike lane heads north toward the bridge. This separates bikes from cars. It keeps them separate as much as possible.
