Former ITV presenter Rachael Sweeney joins BBC Newcastle as a permanent newsreader, following in her mother’s footsteps.

Rachael is Sue Sweeney’s daughter. Sue Sweeney hosted BBC Radio Newcastle. Rachael used to read news on GB News, and she also presented Steph’s Packed Lunch on Channel 4.
Rachael said she is now a BBC broadcaster, and she feels very proud to join BBC Newcastle. She will be a permanent newsreader there. Radio is valuable to her and others.
Sue Sweeney thinks it is great. She worked at BBC Radio Newcastle and was a presenter for over twenty years before leaving the show in 2019. Sue feels very proud of Rachael.
Many fans celebrated the news, offering congratulations on social media. They were happy about her new role.
Tony Hodge remembered visiting and seeing Rachael and her mom on Sue’s show. Adam Oliver congratulated the team, saying he enjoyed working with them a lot.
