Raglan Dairy wins back contract to supply Monmouthshire. Local milk returns after safety concerns with distant supplier.

The council had agreed on a contract back in 2018, providing local milk in reusable glass bottles from Monmouthshire farms. This contract ended in March 2024, and a faraway national company, over 100 miles away, replaced them.
Monmouthshire councillors looked into the new supplier, Totally Welsh, and discovered they were using a Cardiff distribution center. Inspectors had condemned this center for not following food safety laws, giving it only a score of 1 out of 5.
Raglan Dairy, in contrast, had a perfect score of 5. Despite a big upgrade happening at the Cardiff center, it was still used to store and deliver food with no safety measures, meaning food safety couldn’t be ensured.
Councillor Richard John expressed his happiness that Raglan Dairy won back the milk and dairy contract. The products go to schools, homes, and leisure centers. This happened because people complained after the council had chosen milk from other areas, including Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and Carmarthenshire, which travelled over a hundred miles.
Monmouthshire people greatly value locally sourced food. Now, children and elders can enjoy Monmouthshire milk from nearby farms. Councillor John praised James and Raglan Dairy’s team, expressing confidence they will offer great service, as they currently do for Monmouthshire people.
