John McDougall, a rapist, is jailed again for over two years after breaching a sexual offenses order just days after release.
In 2000, he raped a woman with a knife in Irvine when she was nineteen. He got a ten-year prison sentence for this. In 2005, he tried to drag a sixteen-year-old girl into bushes, also in Irvine. He was jailed for another year because of that.
A special order started in 2016 before his release. This order prohibited him from contacting women who were alone or not initially known to him. He also had to tell police about new female relationships within two days.
He was in court on February 18 for new offenses. These happened five days after his release on July 17 last year, when he was housed him in Kilwinning, in temporary housing.
He went to a woman’s house next door repeatedly during her curfew hours. Police found out during a routine check, and he hadn’t told them about the new contact. The police noted she was alone and he knew her.
His lawyer said the woman approached him first. However, he continued talking to her. His lawyer also said that his mom passed away while he was jailed, and he couldn’t see her or attend her funeral. She stated this woman was the first person he spoke to, and he regrets breaking the rules.
The Sheriff said McDougall’s case was upsetting. He stated these offenses are repeated and McDougall needs to change his behavior. Otherwise, it’ll be a cycle of prison releases. McDougall then got over two years in prison.
