Hey, guess what I just read? Reading has cars that take photos. These cars patrol and catch parking rule breakers. The council calls them ‘approved devices.’ They can legally give out parking tickets.

They revealed the roads with the most tickets. Oxford Road had a lot. The CCTV cars gave out 4,485 tickets there. Friar Street came in second with 1,227 fines.

Wokingham Road had 1,039 fines, previously being the second worst spot last year. Blagrave Street saw 770 parking tickets issued. The CCTV cars did a lot of ticketing in these areas.

These cars issued 10,408 tickets in 2023/24. The majority were for red route stops, totaling 10,038 tickets. Red routes ban parking all the time.

The other tickets were for bus stop parking and parking on ‘School: Keep Clear’ markings. These are serious fines for prohibited parking.

The council charges £70, but paying within 21 days reduces it to £35. The council’s parking report contains these numbers and will be discussed on March 6.

Ticket numbers went up this year, with 306 more issued than last year. In 2022/23, they issued 10,102 tickets. Now you’re all caught up!
