Safety upgrades set to improve cyclist and pedestrian access at Reading’s Palmer Park.

They plan to improve the route for cyclists, linking Woodley’s center and Palmer Park. It ends at Wyekham Road and Palmer Park Avenue. These changes will improve cyclist access to the park.
New road symbols will mark the cycle route. A raised crossing is planned at the junction, and a parallel crossing will lead into Palmer Park. The south side of Culver Lane gets an update.
The pavement will become a shared space where pedestrians and cyclists can use it together. This area is near Wykeham Road and the border. Funding for the project comes from an Active Travel Fund.
Wokingham Council received over £576,000, which they will use for this active travel path. The junction lies within Reading’s boundary, and Reading Council is surveying people about the plans.
The survey asks if you support the proposal and allows you to add your comments. The deadline to respond was February 20. They talked about the project last November within a council meeting.
The wider route connects Woodley to the park. They plan to upgrade paths and crossings. Some of Woodlands Avenue’s speed will reduce to just 20 mph, and other roads may also become 20 mph zones later.
