Locals reminisce about Kate Winslet’s time in Reading after photo of her former Oxford Road home surfaces online.
Murray Leese shared a photo of Winslet’s old home, posting it on the Facebook page “Reading & Thames Valley Area ‘Memories of another day.’” He wrote a riddle with the photo, asking people to name the house’s location and the famous actress who lived there after Tilehurst Road.
Over one hundred people commented, sharing their guesses and correctly identifying Kate Winslet. Some people even shared stories about her.
One person, who worked at the Oxford Road Co-op around 1990 to 1991, chatted with Kate’s mom often and later learned who she was. Another person knew someone whose daughter knew Kate Winslet well.
One snowy Christmas Eve, the friend visited her daughter’s house when the doorbell rang. Kate and her boyfriend stood outside in snowy clothes and wellies. The friend was shocked to see her and invited them inside.
