Plans submitted to renovate the Little Sauce Factory on London Road into apartments. The historic building will get restored.

People think it was built between 1840 and 1870. The building has served many purposes over time. The pub had several names, including London Vaults and Fort Royal. The Little Sauce Factory was its best known name.
It became The Sauce Factory in 2008, a restaurant, brasserie, and tapas bar. The place closed in July 2008. By 2009, it became Pete’s Indian Restaurant.
Demolition was allowed in December 2009. Instead, it became The Carpet Factory from 2014 to 2016. Since then, it has looked bad. City Councillors called its appearance “awful” last year.
The plan is for apartments. Renovations will highlight its history. The cornice will be restored, and they will also renovate the outside. They will install new metal windows. Stained glass panels will get new glazing.
Windows will enlarge for living spaces. Brass fixtures will adorn entrance doors. A glass balcony will overlook the park. The character appraisal describes a residential feel.
Around London Road, houses climb the hill. The housing has mixed styles, with terraces and detached homes. They range from the 18th to 20th century. The houses are large, usually two or three stories. Large gardens signal a wealthy area.
