A petition is circulating against a 13% council tax increase in Clackmannanshire, citing financial strain on residents.

The Labour party didn’t agree with the fee increase. Councillor Craig Holden also opposed the decision, worried it would cause poverty for people.
Someone who lives there started a petition. It asks officials to rethink the increased fee, arguing that this tax is unfair. It adds that families are struggling to pay during a cost-of-living crisis and urges people to protest the tax hike because it only punishes residents.
The petition started last Friday, December 28, and already has almost three thousand signatures. Labour councillors support the petition. Councillor Janine Rennie also supports the petition and said she will help with any lobbying, believing this tax increase is wrong.
She added that people contacted her, saying they don’t know how they will pay it. The Clackmannanshire Council shared a statement saying they made a balanced budget legally, adding that the council also has a process for petitions.
