Plans submitted for a free bike park in Richmond targeting all skill levels with trails for health and community benefits.

Other parks inspired this idea, such as Devil’s Toenail and Pickering Pump Track. These parks are very popular places. Louise Raine is leading the Richmond Bike Park project and believes it will greatly benefit local young people.
Richmond currently lacks a dedicated space for off-road cycling. The bike park will address this need, providing families with a safe environment to ride without the worries of cars or traffic.
Louise began considering this project in April 2024. At the time, she had to drive her children to Wetherby, which was the closest bike park.
She consulted with various Richmond groups and schools, finding widespread support for the park idea. According to Louise, the support “spiralled” from there.
The proposed location is north of Green Howards Road. It features 4.3 acres with a natural slope, making it ideal for bike trails.
The trails will be designed using Forestry England’s system, offering Green, Blue, and Red levels. A small Black section will cater to expert riders, allowing riders to gradually improve their skills.
The Richmond Bike Park plan has garnered considerable support. Over 500 people signed a petition in its favor, with schools and clubs also backing the project, citing its potential to improve everyone’s health.
The park has the potential to boost Richmond’s local businesses. It could attract visitors to local cafes and shops, potentially increasing the number of people coming to town.
The plans incorporate parking and easy access. They include 23 new parking spots, along with an overflow area for peak times. Zetland Estates has granted the park a 50-year lease, ensuring its long-term presence.
The application was submitted in January, but North Yorkshire Council has yet to set a decision date.
