WH Smith’s Richmond shop got an award, showing their understanding of dementia. A local group, the Dementia Friendly Communities Group in Richmond, presented the award. This group promotes good dementia practices.

Linda Curran, who leads the Dementia Friendly group, said people praised WH Smith workers for being kind and understanding. One example cited was a customer who buys his newspaper there daily, with staff helping him get the right paper without any trouble.

Deirdre Edgar, also in the group, emphasized that this small act matters, helping someone with dementia stay active and remain fully independent. Jake Washington, who manages the WH Smith store, said the award is a great honor and motivates all the staff.

According to Washington, the staff always tries to make the shop welcoming and as accessible as possible. The Dementia Friendly group collaborates with many groups, including carers, healthcare providers, the NHS, fire, and police services.
