A place for rough sleepers in Romford opened on February 10th at the Salvation Army, offering support services.

Havering Council runs the center with partners. They want to improve rough sleepers’ health, including both their physical and mental well-being. A former rough sleeper, Adrian Green, came up with the idea.
Adrian shared his story of struggles. He had his own home and a window cleaning business. In 2018, he started drinking too much after a breakup. He ended up on the streets after trying to stop.
Havering Council’s team helped him get back on track. Now, he wants to help others in the same situation. That’s why he asked the council to start the drop-in, understanding their challenges and mental health issues well.
The center also has health support services available, including mental health help. A doctor offers vaccines, useful drug products, and screenings. They even check livers and Hepatitis B.
A councilor said the drop-in improves their work, helping people off the streets already. Adrian inspired them to find better support methods. The drop-in is every second Monday monthly and occurs at the Salvation Army in Romford.
