Two Rotary clubs held a Swimarathon and raised £20,000 for local charities. The event took place at pools in Lynn and Hunstanton.

The clubs collaborated to organize the Swimarathon, which occurred on a Saturday at Alive pools. Specifically, the pools were St James in Lynn and Oasis in Hunstanton.

This year saw record numbers of teams participating. Lynn had 39 teams, each with six swimmers, while Hunstanton had 12 teams.

The teams swam relays for an hour, totaling over 7,500 lengths across both pools. This equates to 120 miles swum for charity.

The West Norfolk Swimming Club participated with 12 teams of various ages. Their teams swam 2,098 lengths in two hours.

Local businesses contributed significantly, providing £7,000 of the total £20,000 raised.

The money will be distributed to charities soon. Lynn’s presentation is scheduled for February 17, while Hunstanton’s date is yet to be determined.

Numerous charities will benefit from the funds. Some include Break Children’s Homes, the 8:56 Foundation, and the Lavender Hill Mob Theatre Company.

Additionally, Little Discoverers, Little Miracles Lynn, Fenland, Mr Bees, and Norfolk Mind will receive funds. The Purfleet Trust is also among the beneficiaries.

The QEH rehab unit, St Faith’s Church, Tapping House, West Norfolk Autism Group, West Norfolk Carers, and Riding for the Disabled will also be supported.

Ken Banks expressed gratitude for the staff and volunteers at the pools, as well as the main sponsors: Adrian Flux for Lynn and Specsavers for Hunstanton.

According to Ken, it was a fantastic day filled with fun and enthusiasm. The significant amount of money raised for charity made the event truly worthwhile.

The Rotary Swimarathon will be held again next year on Saturday, February 7. The organizers hope to raise even more funds.
