Concerns grow over passenger safety at Ardrossan Harbour due to restricted bus drop-off locations and late evening arrivals.

CalMac said staff help passengers at Ardrossan from six to six. However, the bus leaves Troon very late sometimes, at 6:50 PM on weekdays, and 8:35 PM on Sundays.
A woman’s mom worries about safety because her daughter works on Arran and lives in the Three Towns area. The daughter takes the bus from Troon, which brings ferry passengers back to Ardrossan. She must always go to the Ardrossan terminal, as the bus won’t stop anywhere else.
Sometimes she waits for a taxi home, but some taxis won’t take her dog, so she has to walk alone. The mom says the harbor feels empty then. It is dark when her daughter arrives, which makes her worried about safety. Last week, she was left at the dark port with another young woman.
They asked to get off at Asda’s bus stop, which is near the harbor, just a bit away. But the bus driver refused to stop there. CalMac spoke to the local paper about this. They know Troon-only ferries are not ideal; it is hard for walkers and train users.
They need these ferries for other routes right now because the normal boat is broken down. CalMac’s bus contract is just port to port, so they cannot change where the bus stops. Staff are there to help customers, even though Ardrossan is closed, working 6 AM to 6 PM.
Ferries should be back in late March when the Caledonian Isles should be repaired. It has been fixed for over a year now.
