A referendum on Salisbury’s development plan will occur February 27. It shapes local planning and provides council funding.

Annie Riddle chairs the plan’s steering group. She states the plan adds weight to local views. This helps during planning applications, and gives the city council more money. This money funds infrastructure projects.
The question on the ballot is pretty direct. It asks if Wiltshire Council should use the plan to decide on local planning applications.
Riddle says the plan gives Salisbury more control. It focuses on issues the people said matter. The plan applies only to the city council’s parish, but must follow Wiltshire Council’s policies.
You can vote if you meet two conditions. You must be able to vote for a Wiltshire councillor and live in the referendum area.
You can read the full plan online at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/planning-neighbourhood-latest-news. Paper copies can be found around town at locations like the Council House.
Eligible people can vote at polling stations or by post. Remember to bring photo ID to the polling station.
