Mohamed Samak’s murder trial concludes without a verdict; jury discharged after failing to reach a decision.

The jury couldn’t agree on a verdict, so the judge discharged them on Monday. Samak, age 42, denies all charges, claiming his wife, Joanne, stabbed herself.
Joanne reportedly stabbed herself six times in the chest and abdomen early on July 1, 2024. Samak says a scream woke him up.
The prosecution argued it was murder, stating Samak wanted to end his marriage, had an interest in another woman, and faced money problems.
Samak, who used to coach hockey at Malvern College and played for Egypt, also coached the Wales under-18 team. He maintains he found his wife stabbing herself.
The judge said he’d accept a majority verdict, and the jury deliberated for almost ten hours. Still, they failed to reach a decision, so the jury was dismissed.
The case will be mentioned in court at Worcester Crown Court on March 17. Joanne’s family shared a loving tribute, describing her as a much-loved daughter and mother.
Her family described Joanne as loving, generous, and sensitive, adding that she worked hard and was talented, and that the family feels thankful for her.
Everyone loved Joanne, and her family and friends deeply miss her. They said words can’t express their sorrow, and they will love and miss her forever. Joanne died at her home at the age of 49.
