Residents worry over increased traffic and accidents on Sandy Lane due to A134 roadworks diversion.

Marcus Popham lives on Sandy Lane and feels annoyed. He thinks road repairs were awful the last few years. A134 roadwork made Sandy Lane a shortcut over the weekend. This made him even angrier about his road.
The A134 closes for weekends until May 5. Hopkins Homes is building a roundabout there. Popham said the road is a mess and needs fixing. He said his wife even crashed on it.
He described Saturday as chaotic, with buses and trucks using Sandy Lane. He thinks the road is unsafe for that kind of traffic.
Mark Carroll also had an accident there in December. His car skidded, then crashed into a van. The road had been closed for nine months because of flooding. He learned the road was reopened without new surface. He said the road surface collapsed when he braked.
People can’t brake properly on that road. Carroll believes it’s a dangerous route and thinks it should close. More accidents could happen during the A134 detour. He thinks the situation is a serious safety problem.
An expert looked at the road and agreed it’s not safe. Carroll noticed a sign saying “unsuitable diversion route.” He believes the sign is there to avoid blame if accidents happen. He thinks it’s reckless to send so much traffic down that single track road. They asked Suffolk Highways for their thoughts on the matter.
