Eden Camp will show a film called ‘The Baby Killers’. The film is about the 1914 bombing of Hartlepool, Whitby, and Scarborough. It will be at The McCarthy on March 1st, located at Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough.

Mick and George Child, a father and son from York, made the film. The film portrays the attack on December 16, 1914 when German ships bombed the North East coast, causing suffering in Hartlepool, Whitby, and Scarborough.

Civilians died in the attack, sparking anger among the British. Winston Churchill, referring to Scarborough, famously called the Germans “baby killers”.

Summer O’Brien, a collections manager and engagement officer at Eden Camp, presents the film. She also contributed to the making of the documentary.

O’Brien is excited to share the film, believing it will inspire and educate future generations. She is passionate about the story and its impact, which influenced her to become a historian.

The showing is at 2:25 PM and will last one hour at The McCarthy theatre. Tickets start at £6, and a Q&A with the filmmakers will follow the screening.

Tickets can be purchased online at sjt.uk.com/events, using the film’s title in the address. Eden Camp also features a trench exhibit in Hut 11, where visitors can walk across duck boards.
