Hollins High School’s floodlight plan sparks worry. Neighbors fear disruption from noise, traffic, and bright lights.

The school wants to add lights to the sports area. The LET Education Trust wants the lights so people could use the pitch later into the evening.
Adam Birkett spoke at the meeting. The school sits near homes, and the sports pitch exists behind school buildings. They want to add floodlights to it.
The plan includes six lighting poles. Each pole will stand ten meters high and will hold fourteen lights.
Four corner poles will each have two lights, while the two central poles get three lights each. They will also resurface the sports courts, turning it into a games area. The new lights allow use when it’s dark, benefitting the players’ well-being.
Mr. Lambert told the council neighbors worry about the lights, which are very bright, about 167 candlepower. People fear the pitch use by outside groups could happen at night and weekends.
He mentioned the extra noise and traffic. Floodlights would disrupt quiet, dark evenings and Mr. Lambert said it’s like having many candles on a sill.
The committee paused the decision. They want to visit the site first to view the pitch and lights’ effect on homes.
