Seagrass Champions Needed to Save Torbay’s Marine Habitats
Freedom Boat Club Torquay, a local boat company, was the first to join the plan. They are eager to support this important idea and protect Torbay’s natural environment.
Boaters involved will enjoy the water responsibly, avoiding anchoring in certain zones and trying to use eco-friendly moorings. They will also participate in collecting litter from the water. The charity hopes to involve more sea-related businesses in the future.
Participating businesses will display the Seagrass Champions logo and share educational facts with their customers. They also commit to using earth-friendly methods to further help protect the sea. Champions will follow local guidelines to show respect for nature.
Many people are unaware of the existence of Torbay seagrass, and these vital meadows are currently at risk. The Trust is pleased with Freedom Boat Club’s involvement and is optimistic that other businesses will follow suit.
The charity trains staff at these businesses so that they can readily answer questions and share information about this key area. The boat club is enthusiastic about working with the Trust to increase awareness of seagrass.
Seagrass protects both sea life and habitats, and it plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change. It has the capacity to store carbon naturally, doing so more effectively than rainforests and significantly benefiting the earth. These underwater meadows also serve as nurseries for fish, protect against coastal erosion, and promote diversity within the marine ecosystem.
