Oliver McClymont grew up on a farm. It raised livestock, so he knows animals well. Six months ago, he joined H&H at St Boswells.

Now, Oliver finished being on probation there. He is now an apprentice auctioneer at H&H. His family breeds sheep and Galloway cattle. They also breed Bluefaced Leicester sheep.

Oliver became interested in farming when young. He found auctions exciting and liked the auctioneers’ energy.

He worked with Adam Grieve and others, including senior figures Iain Dick and Tom Story. He learns by going to sales and visiting farms to see livestock.

Mondays and Wednesdays have sales at St Boswells and Wooler. Tuesdays and Thursdays also have store sales. Oliver is learning a lot by doing this work and sees stock value easily now.

His first Christmas sale, where he sold turkeys, was a high point. It was his first live auction experience. Selling turkeys was very fun for him, and he loved meeting customers.

He went to Borders and East Lothian farms and learned how farms work differently. Oliver helped with farm machinery sales too, listing machinery for Carlisle online. He likes how varied his job is, as H&H covers livestock and other areas.

He enjoyed the Carry House sale a lot, which sold Leicesters at Carlisle for high prices. The sale went great, and he was part of it.

Oliver wants to become a qualified auctioneer and plans to take exams at Harper Adams University.

Oliver still helps on his family farm too, when he has free time. Lambing is a busy period to assist with.

Learning from others is key for Oliver, as it is very important. He also answers the phones and offers the team administrative support. The team is friendly and showed him what to do, providing supportive help.
