Le Raaj will open “Sexy Savoy” in Morpeth. The town council objects to the name, finding it unsuitable for the location.
The name “Sexy Savoy” caused issues with the Town Council. They think the name is “unsavoury” for the location. The new restaurant will be where Novo used to be.
Greg Lake, from Geordie Shore, ran Novo previously. His restaurant closed in 2023 after bankruptcy. Plans for new signs include “Sexy Savoy” in large letters. These were submitted to the county council last month.
The Town Council shared comments on Valentine’s Day. They like the sign design, but not the restaurant’s name. The council thinks “Sexy Savoy” sounds inappropriate.
It is unfit for a historic town, they said. It’s near the bus station and schools too. The council supports new businesses in Morpeth.
They want the word “sexy” taken off the name. The planning application includes illuminated signs. A lit-up menu box is also in current public review.
Greg Lake’s company had significant debts when Novo failed. The debts totaled over £360,000. Greg was on Geordie Shore’s first season. He later had a child with Jennifer Metcalfe. They separated in 2020.
