A large sinkhole closed Godstone High Street in Surrey after a water pipe burst, causing evacuations and traffic rerouting.

The police closed Godstone High Street. This was between Oxted Road and Bletchingley Road. They evacuated some nearby buildings as a safety measure, and a big cordon, about 100 meters, is up.
Reports say the sinkhole is quite large, possibly about 62 feet wide, but officials haven’t confirmed that size yet. SES Water said their pipe burst and apologized.
SES Water is working to fix it quickly. Emergency services are also there, and they rerouted traffic to a similar road, which keeps drivers safe during repairs.
The burst pipe cut off water to some homes, and they are trying to reroute water to those homes. Police ask people to avoid the area, as it might stay closed for a while.
There are many emergency vehicles there. A big sinkhole swallowed a truck in Japan recently. Another one appeared near Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, and a woman died after falling into one in Pennsylvania.
