Skipton’s £7.8m project will link rail/bus, promote green travel, improve access/public spaces, and boost the economy.

Better public spaces will further help Skipton’s visitor economy. Skipton already earns £207 million each year and attracts 1.7 million visitors. The project includes Black Walk upgrades, improvements to Carleton Street and Gas Street, and resurfacing over one kilometer of canal path. A new 300-meter path will also link the canal to the leisure centre.
Gallows Bridge will get a replacement that resembles the older bridge. NYHighways starts work March 3, clearing the site and doing landscaping. Black Walk work begins in April, and canal upgrades start in the summer.
The council member wants to improve Skipton by boosting the railway station’s role as a gateway for both the town and the Dales region. This investment, secured after significant effort, improves key routes and opens opportunities, with the ultimate goal of more people traveling sustainably.
Future station upgrades are planned, specifically improving the railway car park. Funding is being sought for this improvement.
North Yorkshire Council received £38 million from the Government’s TCF program, covering projects in Harrogate, Selby, and Skipton. West Yorkshire secured funds from transport authorities to offer cleaner travel choices that provide better access.
