Hey, guess what I read! They want to build a cool path. This path will let you walk or bike. It will go along Somerset’s coast! It’s called the Steam Coast Trail.

The trail will connect Minehead to Williton. It runs near the West Somerset Railway. Parts already link to other paths, and you can reach Minehead or Watchet now. The Somerset Council supports finishing it.

It’s part of their transport plan. They made this plan public recently. This is a big step forward. The first trail section opened in 2016; it goes from Dunster Beach to Blue Anchor.

It’s near the coastal defenses, by Anchor’s Drop. The second section opened in 2018. It links Dragon’s Cross to Washford. It goes north of the train station, offering another nice stretch.

A new, short section is coming. It’s about one mile long. They will build it with 350 new homes. This area sits on Priest Street. The new path will link two roads: these are the B3191 and Doniford Road.

It also connects to Orchard Brooks homes. They will spend money on it. About £500,000 is for the path extension. Also, £200,000 is for a crossing on the B3191 road there. It makes things safer.

The council wants better paths throughout Somerset. They want to help both locals and visitors there. Many people walk and bike. Walking and biking are helpful.

It provides transport and independence. This is especially useful for some. Not everyone has a car. The council knows safety is needed. They will improve infrastructure and better information is also planned. This will make active travel safer.

The plan doesn’t fund the trail directly. Still, it mentions how paths get money. It’s good they are thinking about it. Things are progressing nicely.
