People reported scam calls to the police. Callers pretended they were from Nationwide’s fraud team.

Nationwide suggests calling 159 if unsure about a call. This service is available all day, every day. Police say scammers claim accounts are at risk. They tell people to move money to a different account.

These fraudsters ask for card numbers and addresses. They also ask for the last time you used your card. They try to use your accounts for fraud.

Some were coached on what to say for large withdrawals. This is to avoid raising suspicion at the bank counter. It’s unclear how many got calls or lost money. Banks never ask for your PIN or passwords by phone, or email.

Police say scammers offer to collect cash and cards. They may send emails asking for login details. These emails will contain a link to a fake page. Never enter your banking info on these sites. You might be asked to approve a transfer of funds.

The police say never give cash to anyone. Protect your personal information at all costs. Report any unusual activity you notice immediately. Contact Action Fraud at 03001232040 if you were a fraud victim.
