Nick Long wants to change a shop on Wincanton High Street into a beer bar. He asked to make this change on January 2, 2025.

The plan shows a bar area, a bottle and barrel store, a saloon area, and toilets.

Above the shop, he wants two new flats. He plans to change storage to a three-bed flat and a new staircase is part of the plan.

The plan shouldn’t affect the area much. Only the shop’s ground floor would change, and the building’s outside look remains the same.

Somerset Council first said no, needing more data on February 4, 2025. Long altered his plans and tried again, wanting to make the second floor a flat. Long’s statement said the issue was the second floor, so the revised plan includes it as a flat, submitted on February 12.

Somerset Council made it official, announcing the new plan on February 18, 2025, according to their website.

The bar aims for beer lovers and is mostly inside. They could use outdoor seating, depending on the weather situation.

The updated plan mentions parking in the back and notes an emergency exit, clarifying safety measures.
