Survey seeks local views on a visitor levy. Funds could boost local tourism for guests and residents.

A small fee, like five percent, could raise money. Councils could get about £500,000 each year after covering the costs to manage it. The council wants to know what people think first. They created a survey for local views.
One council member, Alec Clark, commented on this issue. Only Edinburgh plans a levy. His council wants feedback from residents and businesses before considering any plans.
How this money gets used matters. The council could create a local forum. Tourism groups, shops, and people could be on it. They would decide where the money goes.
The survey closes on May 9 at 4 PM. After the survey, the council decides what’s next. They will see if they should create a levy plan. Any exemptions to the plans will face review. They must allow at least 18 months for review.
Formal talks and making it happen will take time. The levy impacts various places to stay like hotels, hostels, and campsites. Bed and breakfasts also are included in the plan.
