Calum Scoular will run the Paris Marathon. He’s honoring Donald Grewar, who died from MND, and raising funds.

Calum is 23 and has fundraised since he was 16. He has done many events for charity, including zip slides and runs. He also did MND Scotland’s fun run. Calum met Donald at Madras College.
Donald taught math and guidance and cared about people. Calum said Donald was warm and made good connections. They connected right away, and Donald encouraged Calum’s activities, including choir and the rugby team.
Donald cheered him on often, and they spoke every week. It was very sad knowing what Donald faced. Donald fought MND bravely after his diagnosis.
Calum learned about Donald’s MND in 2015. Donald kept his illness quiet at first, but Calum noticed changes in Donald’s health later. He lost weight, his posture changed, and he started using mobility aids.
Donald kept teaching as long as possible and didn’t let the disease stop him. Calum changed schools the year of Donald’s diagnosis, which he found difficult to deal with. Donald always put others first.
Donald cared and was compassionate, and Calum connected with him immediately. Donald profoundly impacted Calum. It has been seven years, but you don’t forget. Donald’s impact fuels Calum’s passion.
He wants to raise awareness for MND Scotland to support essential services and seek a cure for MND. This disease affects many Scottish people and takes away their strength.
Donald enjoyed fitness and marathons, inspiring Calum to start running too. Calum will run a marathon in Paris, the same one Donald completed: the Schneider Electric Marathon.
The marathon is a 42.195 km route through Paris, including famous spots like the Champs Elysées and the Bois de Vincennes. Calum’s dad and brother will join him in Paris, while his mom raises at-home awareness.
Calum said he appreciates his parents’ support and trained hard for the marathon. He recovered from a hip injury and learned from past mistakes while training. Some businesses gave support through sponsorships.
