South Holland council leaders want to raise council tax. They propose a 2.99% increase for residents. The cabinet agreed on the draft budget for 2025/26. They met on Tuesday, February 18 to discuss it.

A full council meeting will make the final choice. The meeting is set for Thursday, February 27. For a Band D property, it means an extra £7.11, about 14p more each week. The yearly bill for a Band D home will then be £208.53.

The increase should provide £343,000 for the council. Paul Redgate said the budget was “extremely challenging,” citing rising costs and less support from the government. The rural services delivery grant ended.

Redgate also mentioned internal drainage board costs, which now total £3.57 million yearly. The council talked to government about it. They have been discussing it for a year.

Christine Marshall called it a very tricky budget, mentioning this at a January meeting. The government grant was cut by £332,000 in December. A recovery grant of £231,000 helped a bit, yet it did not cover the loss.
