The council wants your help finding illegal street sellers. South Kesteven District Council regulates mobile traders. They define these traders as those who move around to sell. Right now, the council has no registered mobile traders.

The council warned about fines. Selling on the street without a permit could cost £1,000. Council member Philip Knowles asks for tips and to email the licensing team with any information. They will check every report received.

Gareth Knight brought up the issue at a council meeting. Knight spoke about increasing mobile traders and mentioned things like food trucks in the area. He wrongly thought two already registered and wanted a new £1 yearly fee. This, he hoped, would encourage proper permits.

The council leader rejected Knight’s idea because he saw it as an unwelcome surprise. The amendment did not get enough support and failed.

Knight also discussed burial costs and pointed to different fees at Grantham Crematorium. He claimed non-Muslim burials cost more, saying the difference was discriminatory. He felt it was nonsensical and even cruel.

He wanted one standard fee for all burials. The council discussed this at a later meeting. They noted only four Muslim burials in five years. Members agreed to examine this carefully and will review it before the next budget year.
