All Saints Church in South Oxhey shares images after a beloved cedar tree was cut down due to fungal infection.

It was Tuesday, February 11, when experts examined the tree and diagnosed it with an incurable fungal infection, Phaeolus schweinitzii.
The church expressed sadness but felt compelled to act, a decision that drew criticism from many who believed the tree could remain.
The church stated they discovered the problem in 2019. A second report confirmed it in late 2024. They said the tree’s branches broke easily, prompting fears of falling branches.
Following the felling, they held prayers, with plans for a new tree to be planted soon, though a date has yet to be decided. People had previously signed a petition to protect the tree.
Ryan White, speaking to the Watford Observer, described the empty space as depressing. He added that the tree used to be a part of their local history.
Ryan White, 38, who works for a charity, said the tree seemed strong. It never looked dangerous to him. The felling happened Tuesday afternoon.
