Hey, guess what I just read? A property developer showed images of skyscrapers in Southwark. One building will be super tall; forty stories high! Southwark Council gave the go-ahead for this huge project. The project costs a billion pounds.

Hines and Foster + Partners designed this new space. They’re building three buildings on Blackfriars Road. It’s in the Bankside area. Two buildings will have over four hundred new homes.

Forty percent of those homes will be affordable. The third building will have lots of office space. It equals about 800,000 square feet. Construction should begin later in the year.

They hope to finish it by 2030. The whole area will be called ‘The Round’. It’s named after the round cultural space in the center. They will host events there all year.

Southwark station is only a three-minute walk. The Southbank Centre is nearby too, with Tate Modern. Also, the National Theatre is super close! The Round will offer retail and food options. New community and education spaces are planned too.

The developer plans to plant seventy new trees. This should help the local wildlife. The council’s approval means Hines will invest money. Seventy-four million pounds goes to community infrastructure.

Twelve million pounds supports affordable workspaces. That includes twenty-thousand square feet. These funds will support local and social businesses. The Round will feature playgrounds, plus cafes, restaurants, and shops. “Hatters Yard” will be a micro food market there.
